Ethics
The Three Fundamental Principles
These principles were adopted from The Way of Fire and Ice by Ryan Smith
Autonomy
All living beings are inherently autonomous, meaning they can make
their own decisions, shape their lives, and live free within the Nine Worlds.
All beings are born free and self-governing.
Right Action
It is therefore critical
that you make the best choices possible, live the most ethical life you can,
and be fully aware of the effect your choices have on others and the world
around you.
Weregild
To reach an agreement where some
form of compensation, through material goods or actions that meets the
injured party’s needs, is justified in the eyes of the community, and is
accepted by both parties as resolving any harm done.
Raven Hammer Virtues
These virtues will help you remain consistent with the Three Fundamental Principles.
INDUSTRIOUSNESS
The willingness to work hard--always striving for efficiency--as a joyous activity in itself.
EQUITY
The “Sense of Justice” in the individual or the respect of other’s rights held by an individual.
COURAGE
The bravery to do what is right at all times.
FELLOWSHIP
The sense of “community” or “friendly association” one has for those around them.
GENEROSITY
It is important to give gifts and return gifts. In this way bonds are formed important to the individual and society at large.
HOSPITALITY
The quality of being mild or flexible towards guests.
MODERATION
The elder heathen did not believe that the pleasures of the body to be “sinful,” they certainly realized that there were times when an individual could have too much of a “good” thing.
INDIVIUALITY
The Community is as strong as the individuals that comprise it.
TRUTH
The quality of being in agreement with reality or facts.
STEADFASTNESS
The ability to continue in a given course of action despite difficulties, opposition, or overwhelming odds.
TROTH
The state of being “firmly dedicated” or “steadfast in one’s commitment” to one’s family, friends, lord, or Gods.
WISDOM
The knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge to one’s own life.
